Luca Manzoni

Luca Manzoni is an assistant professor in Computer Science at the University of Trieste, Italy.
Master of Science in Computer Science (2009) and PhD in Computer Science (2013) at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy.
JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow (short term) at the Osaka Electro-Communication University (2012), postdoc at the Universitè Nice Sophia-Antipolis (2013-2014) and at the University of Milano-Bicocca (2014-2018). Assistant professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca (2018-2019) and currently assistant professor at the University of Trieste (2019-2022). Associate professor from July 1, 2022.

His research interests include: Bio-inspired models of computations, including cellular automata, reaction systems, P systems and membrane computing; evolutionary computation, in particular genetic programming and genetic algorithms; swarm intelligence, like particle swarm optimization, with applications to biological problems; application of machine learning technique to the scientific domain, in particular with current collaborations in the area of oceanography.

Author of more than 100 scientific papers receiving more than 1700 citations (H-index 21). In 2017 he won the "giovani talenti" (young talents) award at the University of Milano-Bicocca and the Accademia dei Lincei for the best postdoc in the areas of computer science and mathematics. Winner of multiple best-paper awards at international conferences, Unit leader for the Erasmus+ project "Digital Empowering Trough HPC Education - HiPowerEd”.
